Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has invited applications for the recruitment of head constable (ministerial), filling a total of 115 vacancies. Interested candidates can apply for the recruitment drive on the official website ssbrectt.gov.in. The deadline to complete the online registration formalities has been set to August 22, 2023. Therefore, candidates have almost a month to apply for the recruitment drive. Out of the total 115 vacancies, 47 are reserved for the general category, 11 for EWS category 26 for OBC, 23 for SC and 11 for ST category. Moreover, 10% vacancies have been dedicated towards ex-servicemen.
SSB Head Constable (Ministerial) 2023 recruitment drive is an elaborate 6-stage process – 1. Physical Efficiency test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST), 2. Written Examination, 3. Skill/Typing Test, 4. Documentation and Detailed Medical Examination (DME), 5. Review Medical Examination (RME) and 6. Final Result. SSB Head Constable 2023 syllabus for written exam
The written exam or second stage of the SSB Head Constable 2021 recruitment drive comprises of a CET. This entrance exam shall be held for a duration of 2 hours or 120 minutes. The exam will contain a total of 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) for a maximum of 100 marks. Therefore, each question shall be allotted 1 mark.
The written exam shall primarily focus on four subjects – 1. General Knowledge, 2. Mathematics, 3. Reasoning and 4. General English/General Hindi. Authorities have also mentioned the cut-off marks for each category. In case of General, EWS, OBC and Ex-Servicemen categories, the cut-off percentage/marks 50%. However, it is 45% for SC and ST category candidates. Students who score equal to or above the required cut-off shall be eligible to appear for the third stage.

Preparation Strategy for SSB Head Constable 2021 entrance exam
To prepare for the written exam, here are certain important tips for candidates to accommodate in their strategy –
Tip 1: Understand the syllabus for each subject.
In case of General Knowledge, topics like current affairs, history of India, science and technology, sports, Indian politics, geography, Indian economy and constitution of India. For the mathematics section, topics such as number system, average, area and volume, percentage, decimal and fraction, ratio and proportions, etc shall be covered.
Under the Reasoning section, topics like analogies, directions, blood relations, arrangements, alphabet series, symbols and notations, etc shall be covered. Lastly, for the English/Hindi section, questions based on parts of speech, tenses, voice, error correction, fill in the blanks, sentence rearrangement, etc. will be asked.
Tip 2: Read the news paper every day to prepare for the General Knowledge section.
Predominant newspapers like the Hindustan Times or Times of India shall be useful to prepare for questions related to current affairs. Additionally, CBSE history textbooks shall come in handy for questions pertaining to India’s history.
Tip 3: Make a list of formulae and tricks for the Mathematics section.
Numerical and mathematical questions require formulae and simple tricks. With just two hours to solve the paper, candidates cannot waste too much time on just one question or section. Therefore, to develop speed in terms on calculations, these formulae shall prove useful.
Tip 4: Refer to news papers and reference books for the language section.
National newspapers, both English and Hindi, have a range of important words which can help candidates improve their vocabulary and grammar. Reference books and previous-year question papers can be useful to prepare for grammar sections. For the English language, Wren & Martin is an important book to refer for grammar concepts.
Tip 5: Solve previous-year question papers and mock tests for the Reasoning section.
The reasoning section is all about speed, logical and quick-thinking under a stressful atmosphere. Puzzles, analogies and logical questions require immense practice. There’s no rattling of formulae or understanding any difficult concept. Therefore, the best way to prepare for this section is to solve previous-year papers and mock exams. By doing so, candidates shall also get a fair idea of the type of questions asked in this section. Make sure to solve the paper within the 2-hour time period.
